Thanks
to everyone who took part in this second Sustain Talks session of
2010/11. The discussion centred around this meaty proposition: with a world population forecast to rise by one third in the next thirty years, how can we redesign the oil-dependent transport and agricultural systems, and the inequitable social conditions, that bring food to our table? Is locally produced food the answer?
Date: 17 November 2010
Chair: Independent curator and RCA tutor Michaela Crimmin
Opening presentation: Lisa Johansson (MA Design Products, 2010)
Architect Carolyn Steel, author of Hungry City; artist and curator Clare Patey, the power behind ‘Feast on the Bridge’; and artist and film-maker Nina Pope, with the aptly titled ongoing project ‘What Will the Harvest Be?’ share their insights into the future of our sustenance. Michaela Crimmin, Independent curator and Curating Contemporary Art tutor at the RCA, chairs a session with these three expert foodies with art, architecture and design – and wellbeing – at the core of their work.
Sustain Talks:

business. The RCA offers a unique forum, opening up and exploring
issues in a free-thinking, cross-disciplinary environment.
In 2010/11 Sustain will host a series of debates with leading thinkers
and doers from across the art and design disciplines. They will inspire
and challenge you to embrace and address sustainability in your work,
providing a forum for honest discussions about the complexities and
opportunities of sustainable practice in art and design.
The lectures will be filmed and posted here on the Sustain website, along with more
