After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textile Design, Emma has worked variously as artist’s assistant and studio manager, as a freelance designer in fashion and textile forecasting for trade fairs, trend agencies and independent clients in Paris, and as a self-employed seamstress, prior to returning to the UK to pursue an academic career. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Textiles at the Arts University College in Bournemouth, and a PhD candidate in the School of Fashion & Textiles at the Royal College of Art, London.
Her creative practice continues to develop in a variety of contexts influenced by combining the traditional textile handcrafts of embroidery and plain sewing with the challenging particularity of collective projects, producing textile works, video and writings.
She has exhibited in galleries in France and the UK, but also has works in homes, cellars, community centres and other people’s memories.
