I did my BA in Korea at Ewha Womans University, majoring in Fashion Design. After graduating, I worked as a womenswear designer before I was offered a place on Central Saint Martins College of Art Design Postgraduate Diploma in Fashion in 2008, and I have been in London ever since.
I was determined to do an MA and everyone said that the Royal College of Art’s Menswear department was the best out there, and that the RCA focuses on each student’s identity, supporting their development rather than shaping them identically to fit certain fashion markets.
I really love the whole ambiance here. People are great (some people say that fashion world is ruthless and people are evil, but the most people in RCA are angels from heaven.) I feel like I can achieve anything, because I get such amazing support. It’s a great place because there are no limitations. Interactions with other department are fantastic and equipment and space are more than enough. Everybody lives and breathes fashion in the studio; there were some desperate moments where I was in agony not being able to create something fabulous, but these were great learning experiences.
I am open about the future because you never know what chances will come your way. Eventually, I would like to work as a tutor back in Korea, but whatever happens I know that my RCA experience has been worthwhile and valuable.
