Railway Wikiversity: Open-source School

Higher education qualifications, recent research has shown, leads to 50 per cent longer commuting times. Many commuters have benefited from additional years of study, yet London’s young people are struggling to find post-recession training opportunities.

The Wikiversity will break down institutional educational barriers by re-using the national railways to create an accessible, user-led alternative. A learning landscape between Kings Cross and St Pancras stations will allow education of varying durations, from formalised qualifications to informal – yet informative – conversations. Trains to satellite campuses will offer classes during the commute and disseminate knowledge throughout the country.
