Café Interior, 2008, Photographers' Gallery, London
With plans for a later rebuild by architects O’Donnell and Tuomey, Klauser & Carpenter were commissioned to design the temporary café interior for the new Ramillies Street premises of the Photographers’ Gallery. The production budget reflected the temporary nature of the interior. The multi-purpose space functioned as the gallery café during the day and could be changed into a lecture room with row seating or an event space. For this, the furniture had to be designed so it could quickly be dismantled without the use of tools and easily stored away by the gallery and café team. The tubular metal frame and black MDF tables and benches were very robust, yet light.
Louvre Light, 2008, Established & Sons
A variety of visual references can be detected in the form of the Louvre Light. Firstly, the shape and function of Venetian window blinds and and secondly mid-century Scandinavian lighting and perhaps even the rear windows of 1980s ‘muscle’ cars. Seamless pressed aluminium louvres with compound-curved corners are repeated layer upon layer in a manner that creates a multi-faceted shade able to provide glare-free, directional and ambient light. The Louvre Light is a practical light source, capable of creating different levels of ambient light and also a formally enticing object in its own right. The proportions of the Louvre Light make it ideal for suspension over any size of dining table.

Mechano Chair, 2005, Thorsten van Elten
The hidden beauty of industrial shelving inspired the Mechano chair. Originally using ready-made shelving uprights, it is now made from laser cut and folded sheet steel. The powder-coated parts bolt together to make a very sturdy occasional chair.
