These works call into question the processes through which reality and illusion are constructed in visual communication and perception. Organised by the RCA Students’ Union and Student Support, this event is the first in a series that will look at issues of race, gender, religious belief, sexuality and age. The first exhibition of current students at the new building in Battersea goes to the second year painters. This is the first opportunity, before they begin to work in the studios to explore all that the new site has to offer as an exhibition space. This show will be an experimental and innovative overview of the current practice of painting in all its broadness, a show that defines the very purpose for this new building.

The Royal College of Art Painting Department are moving to a new building in Battersea. The space opens to the public with an exhibition by over 50 contemporary artists. All the contributing artists have a connection to the RCA Painting course from the last ten years, including staff and graduates such as George Shaw, Turner Prize nominees Gillian Carnegie and Goshka Macuga, Ansel Krut, Chantal Joffe, Nigel Cooke and Daniel Sinsel. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to see the range of current contemporary painting practice.

Exhibition of work by RCA graduate, Patric Old. At the time of his death, Old was an AHRC funded DPhil candidate at the Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art, in collaboration with the Future of Humanity Institute. This exhibition will focus on Patric's contribution to research on Human Enhancement, with his own discovery of ‘Oneness’ expressed in sometimes base, explicit, physical visual works informed by his privileged insight as a fine artist, and from working in the fashion, beauty publishing and fashion doll industries. This exhibition may contain some sexually explicit material.

RCA Fashion Menswear graduate Aitor Throup has designed the 20th Anniversary Edition of C.P. Company's most iconic piece - the Goggle or Mille Miglia Jacket. To celebrate both the past and future of this jacket the company is hosting a special exhibition at the RCA. The exhibition, which has been curated by Throup, features the new design as well as 20 Mille Miglia jackets selected from the C.P. Company archive.

Presented by Magic of Persia, the London based charity, in collaboration with the London and Tehran- based cultural consultancy Candlestar, this exhibition presents the six finalists of the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize. This is the first global award to recognise the talent of emerging Iranian artists.

The CLOSEUP show presents ten years of European design projects by the Helen Hamlyn Research Associates at the RCA (1999-2009). Curated by the Helen Hamlyn Centre, it is supported by the European Commission Representation in the UK to mark the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009.

Exhibits will explore inclusive design, workplace design and design for patient safety. The exhibition will include the latest Research Associate projects as well as taking a look at the influence of the programme, which matches new College design graduates with external partners, over the past decade.

This show explores the future of solar cell technology and is based on collaboration between the Department of Design Products at the RCA and three other design schools – the California College of the Arts (CCA), the School of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris (ENSCI).

This one-day innovation fair for early-stage technologies marks a collaboration between InnovationRCA, Unwired Events and Inflate, the inflatable structures company founded in 1995 by RCA design graduate Nick Crosbie.

Visitors will encounter inventors and designers face-to-face in a series of luminous inflatable pods, in order to stimulate dialogue and investment around ideas at an early stage in their development.

Innovations by RCA students and alumni will be presented, including new Selected Works, alongside fresh ideas from the corporate labs. There will also be contributions from innovators working in the Design London Incubator, a joint initiative with Imperial College London funded by NESTA.

Exploring Innovation is sponsored by Bene, which will furnish the pods with modern furniture classics.

Seventeen Masters students at the Royal College of Art’s School of Applied Arts have been invited to make new work in response to the museum. Through installation, sculpture and performance, the artists challenge conventions of ceramics and glass practice, and confront our deepest fears and hidden desires. Join MA Curating Contemporary Art 2009 graduates at the Royal College of Art to celebrate the publication of Friends of the Divided Mind. This catalogue is an extension of the exhibition of the same name, which took place at the RCA 18–29 March, 2009 - see here for details. At 8pm a new performance by Dora Garcìa will be presented by Office of Real Time Activity. The 60 Minute Zoom, Identification/Projection (2009), is based on a story by J.G.Ballard and is an example of real-time narrative in fiction.

Also being launched is the free publication for Performing Localities: Recent Guatemalan Performance Art on Video, a two-day programme of talks and screenings organised by the First Year MA Curating Contemporary Art students at Iniva 5–6 May, 2009.

The Man Group Portfolio Prize is awarded annually by the Man Group Charitable Trust in conjunction with the RCA Drawing Studio. The RCA places drawing at the heart of every discipline in the College and this award is presented to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to an imaginative and sustained use of drawing in design and fine art practice.

Under the influence of the internet and advanced communications generally, practice in architecture had to change. Fluidity and responsiveness are now the keys. Experiment as a prime value can now be seen as an ally of practice. But the real shared ground here is the city as both resource and inspiration. Shearcroft and Aquila will explore the connection between the city as they find it and the city they would like to see.
