My first training was as a linguist. I completed degrees in Spanish
and Portuguese language and literature and lived for extended periods in
Spain and Latin America. After graduating I worked in the
translation/publications department of Amnesty International and as a
language tutor in Brixton Prison. I then trained as a translator and
worked as a lecturer in translation and as a freelance translator for a
period of ten years. When my fourth daughter was born in 2000, I decided
to retrain as a ceramicist. My research draws on my current artistic
practice and my previous experience in translation.
