  • Biography

    Nathaniel Dafydd Beard has a BA (Hons) in Fashion Management from London College of Fashion and an MA in Mode, Vormgeving en Strategie from ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de kunsten Arnhem. He has completed additional studies in fashion journalism and curation at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and anthropology at University College London (UCL). As a writer, curator and researcher his practice is concerned with all aspects of fashion culture, specifically the fashion city. In 2009–10 he curated Fashion Souvenirs: Exploring Fashion’s Search for the Authentic, the first dedicated online fashion exhibition. His work has been published in Fashion Theory: Journal of Dress, Body and Culture, Address - Journal of Fashion Writing and Criticism and Sexymachinery and presented in papers at the universities of Brighton, Helsinki, Oxford, and Sheffield, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Milan, London College of Fashion, and Institut Français de la Mode, Paris. Forthcoming publications include book chapters on fashion imagery and the commoditisation of fashion in Germany and the UK. In September 2012 he convened Fashioning the City: Exploring Fashion Cultures, Structures, and Systems, the RCA’s first full-scale international, inter-disciplinary conference on fashion.
