My interest is in understanding how a person's beliefs, background and context shapes their personality, presentation and behaviour. In particular, I want to understand how women instantiate different forms of resistance through their appearance and dress. I am coming to research after working for eight years as a journalist covering international and British current affairs, arts and culture. Most recently I was an editor at Economist.com covering the Middle East and Asia. Before that I worked at Newsweek International and Vogue magazine. I have a Masters in International History from the LSE, where I wrote my dissertation on Hamas followed by a visit to Gaza in 2001 during the Second Intifada. I have a BA in French Literature from Kings College, London, where I began to develop my longstanding interest in women's studies and feminist theory through French feminist writers.
