All students on the programme have the opportunity to take part in the international study visits, which take place each year. Students on the MA programme usually visit either Paris or Amsterdam in the autumn term to explore the development of architecture and the decorative arts in either city before 1800.

All students have the opportunity to participate in a spring term visit to either one of the key cities of the Italian Renaissance or European centres of modern design. In 2009 students on the course visited Rome and Istanbul.

These tours are led by staff on the programme, with the expert support of curators and architectural historians from the cities visited. Students also visit specialist museums and conservation workshops as well as factories and contemporary design studios.
