BuyProduct aims both to criticise the carbon-trading system and to raise awareness of how good we are at destroying our planet.

A.T.R.E.E.M. (Automated Tree-Rental for Emission Encaging Machine) is a rentable meter for a tree, used to 'offset' clients' carbon footprints.

The developed design of A.T.R.E.E.M. is a signpost-like object attached to the tree, with a tape measuring its girth in order to calculate its growth and the CO2 that the tree absorbs.

The user interface of A.T.R.E.E.M. shows the intangible CO2 in grams and how long the tree takes to offset that amount. For example, a ten-minute tube journey emits about 350 grams of CO2, and the tree takes two days and ten hours to offset that amount.

This is an easy way for the user to imagine how good they are at leaving waste to the planet. Could this system make us think more about the effects of capitalism on our planet?
