    ReachOutRCA

ReachOutRCA is the Royal College of Art’s schools' outreach programme where RCA students, many of whom will become pioneers in their field, lead a varied and rewarding programme of workshops, projects and exhibitions with secondary school pupils.

This year, as well as a programme of practical workshops taking place during the show they will be launching 'Showzine' an online magazine/fanzine created by young people exploring their responses to the show. This aims to be a nationwide resource for other schools, teachers and young people, introducing them to the Show, the RCA and possibilities in higher education study and more broadly the creative industries. The Conran Foundation Awards 2009

The Conran Foundation Awards are given to graduates of the Royal College of Art and reward good design that will have a positive impact on the way people feel, think and live, as well as on the national and international economic situation; the overall message being that commercial success and cultural impact are intertwined.

The six awards of £2,000 each are open to Architecture & Design, Communications, Fashion & Textiles, Fine Art and Applied Art graduates. The three recipients from SHOW ONE are Andreas Blank, Sculpture; Rhys Himsworth, Printmaking and Penelope Batley, Ceramics & Glass. Awards for SHOW TWO will be announced and presented on 24 June.

    Helen Hamlyn Design Awards 2009

Organised by the Royal College of Art Helen Hamlyn Centre.

This design award scheme aims to encourage graduating RCA students to engage with social issues and develop their ideas through user research. Five major awards will be given to projects that can improve social inclusion for older people, working lives and patient safety. The results will be announced at RCA Innovation Night on 30 June 2009.

The Helen Hamlyn Design Awards form the centrepiece of the Helen Hamlyn Centre's student programme at the RCA, which this year piloted new workshops called The Methods Lab to engage students in techniques of inclusive design.
