  • . We live in a ‘throw-away’ society, but what does ‘away’ mean? In the UK, ‘away’ usually means landfill, shipped to another country for recycling, or incineration. The short lifespan of products does not match the resiliency of their materials. In disposal these short-lived products are rarely placed in an environment conducive to material breakdown. Even a newspaper cannot biodegrade in improper conditions: after 70 years they have been dug up from landfill completely intact and legible. Hyper-Disposable explores the idea of matching material life to product lifespan. This project asks whether we can dispose of and destroy things directly after use without having to transport them somewhere else.
