ADS1: Elephant & Castle

Preventable diseases are on the increase and Southwark is very unwell. If the city is conceived as an organism then the buildings are its organs and its healthcare heart is Guy’s Hospital, an isolated urban slab.

By cutting open the existing architecture and infiltrating a programmatic ‘détournement’ the project attempts to tackle the physical and virtual illness of society. My work is about questioning the integration of materials and the assimilation of human experience. The building changes the society it serves, displacing its own reason to exist.
