I arrived at the RCA with the intention of continuing my BA project but
things never go to plan! I wasn’t prepared for the culture shock that I had
when I arrived. It took me quite a while to get over the fact I was one of a
very small number of black people attending the College. So I turned the
camera on myself.
For the past two years I have been making self-portraits of myself wearing
blonde wigs in various locations. The work stems from a childhood desire
to fit in with the social majority; with the use of the wig I have highlighted
this desire as well as emphasising my racial difference.
