After my mother’s thyroidectomy, she was left with
a large scar running across the base of her neck. As she was
self-conscious about this scar, I started to make jewellery for her to
cover the area and discovered that her jewellery needs had changed as a result of her condition.
I began to do research into the
medical treatment of scars as well as make jewellery that could help to
cover and soothe the skin of the scar while it healed. I soon discovered
healing materials as well as new fabric technology that creates clean
skin surfaces through anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and odour-resistant
properties. The focus of my work now is to research and utilise new
medical materials for the purpose of healing wounds through jewellery.
