Across The Water (1980, Pompidou Centre, Paris), Nigel Rolfe
Nigel Rolfe continues to develop his practice.
In prospect there is a body of works in the landscape in Civil War sites in Virginia, USA. A meeting place of “inner emotions and external tragedies”: physical actions sited and located as carriers or metaphors for emotional markers. A project initiated in 2008: “A life image as metaphor is stronger than art image as metaphor…” – an interview with Brian O’Doherty.
There are developing film works extending the three made in 2008, continuations of content established over 30 years of practice, “concerned not with what things look like but what they are about, what they represent”.
In 2009 he will deliver papers and keynote addresses at conferences and extensive lectures on his work.
