Summary of Research Field
The Future of Landscape and the Moving Image is a three-year research project which sets out to address the production of landscape and images of landscape in terms of mobility, belonging/displacement and current and anticipated future economic change, a collaboration with Professor Doreen Massey of the Open University and Professor Patrick Wright of Nottingham Trent University supported by a grant from the AHRC's Landscape and Environment programme.
The City of the Future is an ongoing project initiated in 2002 as a three-year AHRB (now AHRC) Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts at the RCA, with the collaboration of the British Film Institute, researching representations of urban and other landscapes in film from the late nineteenth century onwards. The project has developed a critique of present-day and possible future spatial experience, outlined in a number of published and forthcoming essays and demonstrated in a navigable DVD which assembles 67 early topographical actuality films as a virtual landscape of circa 1900.
