    A L Rees is research tutor in Visual Communication. He has lectured in art and design colleges since 1971, specialising in film studies and artists’ film and video. He also presents films in art galleries and has curated many screenings and exhibitions.


    Biography

    A L Rees is a graduate of Philosophy and Politics (BA 1970, Lancaster University) and he took an MA in Cultural History at the RCA (1983). A former chair of the Arts Council Artists' Film and Video Panel, he was on the management and academic advisory panels of the AHRC Centre for British Film and Television Studies and the Audio-Visual PhD group (AVPHD), an AHRC-funded initiative for academic development in media and practice-based research. A L Rees was also a member of the AHRC Postgraduate Awards Panel for art, design and media. Currently, he is an adviser to the Study Centre for British Film and Video Artists, and on the board of its inter-collegiate AHRC project, ‘Narrative Exploration and Expanded Cinema’; a board member of no.w.here artists’ film group and its journal Sequence; and a member of the Moving Image Research Art Network and its journal Miraj (AHRC-funded). He is also an advisory reader to British Film Institute publications (Palgrave Macmillan), Leonardo (Oxford University Press, New York), and is on the editorial board of Film Quarterly (USA).
