  • Biography

    A graduate in Contemporary Art (1995, University of Amsterdam - The Netherlands), Marieke van Hal has worked as Senior Curator at Montevideo/TBA, the Netherlands Media Art Institute in Amsterdam (1995-2000) where she curated many thematic exhibitions. She became General Coordinator of the International Foundation Manifesta, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art (2000-2006) and was managing editor of Manifesta Journal - Journal on Curatorial Practices. In 2007 Marieke van Hal was Director of the 1st Athens Biennial in Greece for which she initiated a European Biennial Network, funded by the European Commission.
