Marina Emmanouil graduated with a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design from the University of Hertfordshire (2001) and an MA in History of Design from the Royal College of Art (2004). Her MA dissertation 'At last, now in Greece! Advertising in America and Greece in the 1950s and 1960s' engaged with issues related to Americanisation and globalisation. Her current PhD research focuses on the emergence of modern graphic design in Greece during the 1950s to the mid-1970s. This research is partly funded by the Doxiadis Foundation and the Design History Society.

Apart from her interest in the history of graphic design and advertising, Marina develops designs for tactile diagrams as part of her contribution to development programmes for visually impaired people in museums and educational centres in the UK and the USA since 2001.
