    Benefits of a New Campus

  • The Royal College of Art was established in 1837; since then thousands of artists and designers have passed through its doors with celebrated alumni including: Henry Moore and David Hockney; Tracey Emin and Bridget Riley; Philip Treacy and Orla Kiely; and James Dyson and Thomas Heatherwick. Updating and expanding our facilities will enable the College to continue nurturing the brightest talent.

As the Departments of Fine and Applied Art move to the new campus in Battersea, the Schools of Architecture & Design, Design for Production, Communications, Fashion & Textiles and Humanities will benefit from the space that is released in South Kensington, so the development will benefit every student at the College for generations to come.

The campus will not only transform the College, it will also help to regenerate this corner of Battersea, providing a landmark arts venue for the local community in an area currently under-served by such facilities.

Plans include a large Gallery fronting Battersea Bridge Road that will exhibit the work of students and staff from both campuses, showcasing the creative processes that take place inside the College. RCA exhibitions give the public a great opportunity to view and purchase work from emerging contemporary artists and makers before they are discovered by galleries and collectors.

Adjacent to the Gallery, a state-of-the-art Lecture Theatre will host a busy programme of keynote lectures and presentations, open to all.
