    Conservation

  • Conservation is a future-focused activity. We draw on an understanding of the past and project this onto the uncertain future; good conservation requires imagination as well as knowledge, skill and experience. Our research seeks out values that impinge on the material, cultural, historical and economic character of artefacts; no avenue is out of bounds, and the department offers students the opportunity to develop their practice within the professional environment of major heritage institutions. Within this arena we encourage students to develop independent thought, to question tradition and to appreciate the ethics of their actions.
