History of Holes
Uncle Roly lived at the end of the corridor in the house we shared with him and his sister Elizabeth. Elizabeth made his meals and kept his clothes clean. They would sit together in the evenings and watch TV. In the day-time he would draw and she would work in the garden. She made him a sweater, which over time he wore away at the elbows. She mended his sweater each time a new hole appeared until the arms were held together entirely by darning.

I have spent the year mending holes in people’s clothes.
