This photograph is from a body of work concerning the excavation of mass graves in the Balkans, comprising interviews, research, photography and writing. I spent many weeks in Slovenia exploring snowy forests with a GPS unit and faulty Croatian coordinates, engaging with local people and abseiling into the caves and ravines used by Tito’s Partisans for their clandestine disposal of corpses.

My work is concerned with the contextual dissemination of information, and I use appropriate means: writing, journalism, curation, typography, publishing, editing, photography, and programming. These are some of the tools of communication – I define my practice by my output.
