My work originates from my personal background, which is closely related to the Christian religion and secular environment of Tokyo, the place I am from. The experiences of reconciling this conflicting environment have been inspirational for this collection.
The concept aesthetically results from the harmonisation of the contrasting elements. Religious and secular, the contrasting ideas coexist in one object; motifs from the Christian world are combined in jewellery, a representation of secularity. Religious motifs are remodeled by technology as contemporary adornments. Computer designs and machine modelling exclude sentimentalism, and instead they underline the abstract aesthetic aspects of these motifs.
