The School’s shared workshops are in the Darwin building and consist of a main workshop covering plastics, woodwork, metalwork, welding and fabrication, paint spraying and rapid prototyping; and asynthetic clay workshop and resin facility. Laser cutting facilities are also available. Specific equipment includes:
5 Axis Mill
The 5 Axis Mill can be used to machine a variety of materials in two and three dimensions from 3D CAD drawings. It is used to machine woods, fibre boards, modelling board and foams, but cannot be used to machine any metals.
Vacuum Formers
The small vacuum former is in the workshop plastics area, it can be used to form thermo setting plastics, Styrens and PETG over form work. There is a similar but much larger vacuum former in the basement.
Strip Heater
This is in the workshop plastics area; it is used to heat straight areas of plastics, to allow them to be bent along a straight line.
Heat Sealer
This can be used to weld plastic sheet material together to form sealed edges.
The Laser Cutter
The laser cutting machine is a Flatbed Laser; complete stand alone cutting and engraving system. It is capable of importing designs from a range of file formats and precision cutting a wide variety of materials at speeds suitable for volume output.
