The Foundation for Science and Technology is Portugal’s main funding agency for research, with the status of a public organisation with administrative and financial autonomy, under the aegis of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education. FCT strategic responsibility is to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the national policy for science, technology and innovation. FCT covers all fields of science, from natural sciences to humanities, normally in a responsive mode, aiming at capability enhancement and research excellence.

José Costa, MPhil student in Curating Contemporary Art, receives funding from FCT for his research into how film can shape and be shaped by collective experience, with particular reference to Portuguese post-revolutionary cinema.
