  • We welcome students with a good first degree from any academic field who wish to pursue thesis-based research within the milieu of art and design education. We encourage applications both from practitioners who wish to pursue a specific academic research project, and equally from students who come from a more formal academic background who wish to continue their research within the unique environment provided by the RCA.

As CHS is closely linked to all studio programmes, we represent an ideal space in which to pursue research projects that have a historical or theoretical interest at their core but which are also closely linked to artistic and/or design practice.

You must have a clearly defined research project and be able to demonstrate your ability to engage in research at the appropriate level. For further details or to discuss a potential research project, please contact the programme Research Coordinator, Martina Margetts.
