We will initiate and coordinate workshops and liaise with schools. For a successful workshop, commitment from you as a teacher is essential, so please be prepared to contribute to organisation and to participate on the day.
We will work with you to arrange a workshop that suits your school timetable, but please be aware that our projects often work best in longer sessions to allow time for pupils to reflect and develop ideas. Preparation for some projects happens over school holidays, so it is important that we are able to contact you both in and out of school hours.
Our workshop leaders are fully supported to successfully deliver a workshop that reflects their practice. They will have an awareness of the considerations needed in an educational context though may not have had prior teaching experience. Workshop leaders cannot be wholly responsible for discipline so during workshops you should always be present. Your expertise, support and engagement will be invaluable to your workshop leader. Workshops have an experimental atmosphere. At the RCA we believe mistakes offer critical opportunities to renegotiate, and take new knowledge onto the next experience.
Every workshop is documented. Work can be taken home to become part of coursework or sketchbooks, and we provide DVDs from film & video workshops. To follow up your workshop we’ll ask you to fill out an evaluation form. Please fill this out honestly and include both positives and improvements to be made. We’ll encourage you and your pupils to report on the workshop on your school website.
Please direct your class to the Pupils section of this website so that they can read about the college and workshops before their visit.
