    Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal)

  • Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian (1869–1965) was an Armenian who conducted much of his work in Britain and became a British citizen, but finally settled in Portugal. Many artistic and cultural institutions, from museums to an orchestra, come under the umbrella of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, established a year after his death, and the Foundation also awards grants throughout the world. The Foundation’s UK branch is organised around programmes in arts, education, social welfare and Anglo-Portuguese cultural relations.

The Foundation currently provides support for Filipa Vaz Monteiro, PhD student, Critical and Historical Studies, for her research into the automobile’s place in the architecture of the city.
