“Craft for me is about skill, technique, material and process. Craft objects can be functional, practical and useful as well as be understood.” Cassi Hill
Cassi introduced pupils to manmade structures, using a range of found and everyday materials to physically transform into 3D shapes and forms. These ranged from cable ties, paper cups, CDs and plastic sheets and were altered by binding, threading, linking, tying, folding and so on.
Pupils had little 3D experience so, at first, were unused to the methods, especially when working without direct reference or fixed outcome. Cassi aimed for them to experiment freely and respond to the fundamental attributes of the materials they were given, rather than working with an image in mind.
Workshops culminated in pupils making a site specific installation, utilising the 3D making skills and material sensitivity acquired over the course of the project.
