Lina Petersen’s workshop introduced students to new ways of working, to contemporary jewellery and to her own practice. She hoped to discover what pupils think about applied arts, “to have interesting conversations about craft”.

Pupils began by exploring assembly and lamination, and drawing on location where they looked particularly for pattern and abstraction in nature. The pupils used those initial drawings to generate further drawings and collages that were then reinterpreted into a jewellery piece. The project concluded with the opportunity to work in wax and silver casting.

The workshop highlighted a jeweller’s special understanding for how one might manipulate and transform materials. Pupils successfully considered how to incorporate ideas, concepts, and additional meanings into the design of the object.
