Workshops take place in schools, at the college and at off-site locations. They vary in length depending on the project, from a morning at the RCA Summer Show, to an extended series of classroom sessions. Three-hour workshops can stimulate pupils and teachers and introduce new ideas, while longer projects foster sustained relationships with selected schools. Workshops are led by RCA students and alumni from all disciplines and are based around their practice, reflecting the varied nature of the student body and their experience at the RCA. It is a key part of ReachOutRCA’s process to highlight the unique traits of a postgraduate environment and for our workshop leaders to discuss their journey to achievement. This contact with a practicing artist, designer or maker is invaluable for school pupils in contextualising art and design as a future vocation or area of study.
We collaborate with other leading institutions and agencies, from the V&A to the Big Draw and the Crafts Council, to increase the reach of our programme and enable more pupils to participate. These links widen professional experience for our workshop leaders and provide opportunities for sharing expertise and best practice to form rewarding partnerships. Flagship projects are generously supported by the Man Investment Group PLC, Deutsche Bank and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. Please see the Partners & Sponsors section for up-to-date information on joint projects, or for how you may wish to work with us.
