  • Deployable, Adaptive Structures (AHRC)

(full title: Designing and Making Deployable and Adaptive Structures based on the Deposition of Metals on Textiles)

The project is examining how a metal/fabric material can form the basis of complex structures with a wide range of applications in relation to the construction of micro- to macro-sized objects. Our objectives, which are supported by practical and computer-simulated testing, lie in the fields of decoration and engineering, drawing principally on the disciplines of applied art and design.

    Simulating Splendour (Leverhulme Trust)

The project explores the application of computer modelling, visualisation and virtual-reality technologies to historical jewellery research. Its focus is on the jewellery of the courts of the Valois Burgundian Dukes in the period 1362–1477.

    New Jewellery

The project explores the practical application of a range of new technologies to the design and production of studio jewellery.

    Master Class

The project aims to record the contributions of visiting artists to the experience of Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery students at the College for the period 1987 to 2006.

The RCA collection of works of over 70 visiting artists has been recently transferred to the Metalwork Department of the Victoria & Albert Museum. Our objective is the publication of a book that will aid the study and understanding of this collection.
