    MA Entrance Requirements

  • Candidates for all MA courses are assessed on their existing qualities as demonstrated in their work and in their interview, as well as on their potential to benefit from the programme and to achieve MA standards overall. The assessment will consider: creativity, imagination and innovation evident in the work; ability to articulate the intentions of the work; intellectual engagement in relevant areas; appropriate technical skills; overall interview performance, including oral use of English.


    • You are generally expected to have a good BA degree from a photography or fine art course.
    • You should be able to demonstrate an original and critical approach to photography as well as an ability to engage with current theories of art and culture that inform your practice.

    Portfolio

    • Your portfolio must be well edited and include a selection of recently completed work, which should not exceed 20 prints of maximum 50 x 60cm.
    • You should include a copy of your BA dissertation or other relevant critical writing.
    • Edited video or DVD should be a maximum of 5–7 minutes long. We do not accept CD-ROMs at this stage of the examination.
    • No framed work or 3D work should be submitted as part of your portfolio.

    Interview (if invited)

    • You will be interviewed by up to three members of the academic staff and a student representative. You will be able to bring additional work for consideration.

  • Applications 2013/14

    Online applications for 2013/14 entry opened on 1 November 2012. The priority closing date has now passed, and applications received are being assessed. Programmes will continue to accept late applications for MA programmes for entry in Autumn 2013, and all programmes welcome enquiries regarding MA, MPhil and PhD study throughout the year.

  • Bursaries
