  • Marie-France Kittler’s Statement

My work explores the forest and its tradition as a metaphor for the psychological and phenomenological aspects of place. I am particulary interested in the omnipresent relationship between light and darkness, which I see as physically and intellectually resonant of the intangibility of place.

In Untitled I (Dialogue Between Light And Forest) the forest is constantly on the point of disappearance; it is the light that binds it to the image. This imminent slippage into invisibility is a metaphor for the blink of the eye that separates the physical reality of one’s existence from the mental perception of it.
