  • Sunnifa Hope’s Statement

The photograph Three Plinths is from a series that looks at the museological traditions used to display and view works of art. By emptying the photographs of art objects and focusing on the modes of display I am asking the audience to look beyond the obvious, and perceive the unexpected, where the gallery is less of a mausoleum. With this series I am using the gallery as a studio to produce artworks rather than as a final resting place. I am inviting the viewer to be more questioning and give more attention to art as a whole rather than as a prescribed experience.
