The central theme of my work is the landscape. However, this does not imply that I am taking photographs of the landscape, but rather I use the landscape in order to create images.
Photography has surpassed painting’s ability to depict the world as if seen through a window. Its illusionistic representation of the real and its accurate depiction of perspective is beyond every Renaissance painter’s wildest dreams.
In contrast, my images as photographs are explicitly self-referential, though without disavowing their subject. They are situated on the threshold between the world and the photographic surface.
