  • Celia Hempton’s Statement

My work is initiated by visiting places that put me in danger. Remote building sites, roadsides, disused canals – neither populated nor without human presence, they are lonely places. There is a genuine fear of attack or accident, as well as a degree of humour or doubt within the absurdity of each proposition.

Drawings are made on site and brought into the studio, where in a more reflective environment I can become intuitively involved in making a painterly response to the psychological.
