  • Kathryn Leyland’s Statement

My work explores the meaning of British identity and how it is conveyed through printed textiles. Questioning historical references whilst exploiting elements of the long-standing class system that is synonymous with Great British culture. I am inspired by the humourous elements that lie within the upper class traditions of clothing, fabrics and style.

The experimentation and process of fabric development is very important to me. I predominantly use multiple layers of screen-printing techniques, as I am fascinated in the variety of techniques that are involved in the fabrication of my textiles.

My collection is dedicated to my brother, Paul.
