Nathan Philpott’s Statement
I have developed a method of design through mark-making, stitching and composition rather than technical solutions. My digitally embroidered wallpapers are rolled sketchbooks written in thread, showing the viewer sketched concepts and ideas lifted from notebooks and diaries that are very personal to me.
I like the idea that wallpaper is honest; it justifies the space it covers; having a reason to be on the wall. The papers and lighting produced are developed through my underlying concerns for sustainability and the constant strive for the replacement of energy-wasting standard light-bulbs.
