  • Joanna Kay Lewis’ Statement

    Knit 1, Purl 1, Build 1.

Knitting and traditional knitted structures translated onto an architectural level; the possibilities are endless and enormous.

By collaborating with Anne-Laure Carruth from the Architecture Department, I have developed the concept of knitting a building, with the structures of knitting becoming an integral part of the building or functional environment.

Using digital knitting technology and 3D computer modelling, I have explored knit structures in a variety of scales from micro rapid prototyping to architectural structures.

I challenge conventional views of the knitted textile designer, and I would like to continue working collaboratively to produce innovative design solutions for a variety of design areas.

    Specialism:
    Knitted textiles
