  • Bonnie Kirkwood’s Statement

An exploration of contrasts and extremes in fabric weight, densities, opacity, transparency and scale, formed the basis for my collection of woven textile designs. I have challenged the idea of combining different weights of fabric within one woven cloth, through yarn and structure combinations, and devoré technique.

Inspired by the energy and dynamics of colour, I created multicoloured kaleidoscopic photographs as a visual resource for my designs. Colour plays a significant role within my work, accentuating the relationship between yarn and structure. Luxury silks, wools and novelty yarns are used for both dobby and jacquard woven fashion fabrics for the designer market.
