  • Marei Wollersberger’s Statement

    Nature or Nurture?

After decades of contemplating childhood through this debate, gene technology could change our understanding completely.

The UK government is establishing a database of citizens from the age of three so that they can be monitored for conspicuous behaviour throughout their childhood. Simultaneously, scientists claim to have discovered the ‘criminal gene’.

Will our children be the first to undergo genetic tests for socially undesirable traits? Would children with ‘clean’ DNA gain superior status? Could we use genetic engineering to make our dream of a safe society reality?
